Lottie is an experienced music educator, specialising in the 0-8 years age range. She has an MA in Music and an MMus in Choral Studies from the University of Cambridge, where she graduated top of her cohort. She has over two decades’ worth of teaching experience, working with students of all ages and abilities (from complete beginners to diploma level). She has worked at a number of schools including Bedford School, Bedford Girls’ School and in several local state schools. She is also a Music Theory examiner (Grades & Diplomas) for Trinity College London.
Since 2015 Lottie has worked as a Visiting Music Teacher at Pilgrims Pre-Preparatory School in Bedford, where she teaches violin, viola, piano and singing. To further her expertise in working with very young children, she qualified as a Stringbabies teacher in 2022. Lottie uses this innovative method (developed by the renowned cello teacher Kay Tucker) to build good sight-reading skills in her violin & viola students, as well as introducing them to composition, singing and improvisation. She also aims to give all her students a good grounding in technique and musicianship.
Since 2021 she has led the Bedford branch of Mini Mozart, bringing live music to local babies and toddlers (and their parents!). Along with accompanist Andrew Longland-Meech, Lottie delivers a different story each week, with live musical accompaniment and sensory activities to get little ones actively listening to the music, rather than just passively hearing.
In 2024 Lottie took up the position of Early Years Music Specialist at Pilgrims Pre-Preparatory School, where she delivers class music sessions to the preschool year group each week.
Lottie has also delivered assemblies on the Hardanger Fiddle at local schools, introducing children of all ages to the rich and varied world of Norwegian folk music – complete with plenty of exciting stories about trolls and water-spirits!
